Oxford has been named as one of the biggest burglary hotspots in the Thames Valley in a new study.

Home security firm SECOM Plc analysed Thames Valley Police data and found Oxford had 891 burglaries, making it a high-risk area compared to others in the Thames Valley.

Reading topped the list with a total of 993 burglaries from January 2023 to February 2024.

These areas had burglary rates of 55, 45.11 and 57 per 10,000 residents respectively.

Meanwhile, South Oxfordshire and West Oxfordshire saw 494 and 368 burglaries, respectively.

These areas had burglary rates of 33.13 and 32.22 per 10,000 residents, underscoring a moderate risk compared to other areas.

Vale of White Horse experienced 340 burglaries, resulting in a burglary rate of 24.48 per 10,000 residents.

Alan Blake from SECOM Plc said: "To put these figures in perspective, the average burglary rate for all lower layer super output areas covered by Thames Valley police between January 2023 to February 2024 was 30.39."

"To bolster home security, individuals should double-check locks on doors and windows before leaving and utilise timers for indoor lights. It's also wise to inform trusted neighbours of absences for added vigilance.

"At SECOM Plc, we advocate for an integrated security approach, combining CCTV cameras with alarm systems, motion sensors, and smart locks to provide a comprehensive safety net for homeowners."
